SOL I OMBRA
Wooden pergola in l’Ametlla del Vallès

The product arises from the need to create a space that provides protection from direct solar radiation and a comfortable, versatile shaded area. The intervention not only meets this functional need but also serves as an element that restructures and enriches the outdoor space, complementing it and providing support for new uses, both in summer and winter.
The pergola is positioned transversally from one side of the garden to the other, creating a visual axis that acts as a frame, enhancing the background forest and directing and framing the view towards the landscape. Being visually permeable, it gives identity to the different areas of the garden without enclosing the space, reinforcing the connection with nature.
Beyond solar protection, the pergola creates a new independent space directly connected to the garden. It becomes a versatile area: a play space for children, a place for gatherings, large meals, or simply a peaceful and relaxing retreat.
The structure has been designed with a system of beams optimized according to structural load. Construction was carried out quickly using a bolted system and employing simple, sustainable materials. The pergola is built with fir wood, with a dark matte sheet that prevents reflections
and remains ventilated to avoid overheating. The threelayer panels provide insulation for the habitable space. The connection to the ground is resolved with galvanized steel elements, preventing corrosion and moisture damage. Its industrializable, replicable, and modular design allows it to adapt to different contexts and needs, making it easy to produce and install in similar projects. This flexibility facilitates serial production and efficient on-site assembly, optimizing time and costs.
The pergola features two levels of protection: a more open and luminous area that allows for controlled sunlight entry and the dissipation of barbecue smoke, and a more opaque and sheltered area for greater user comfort. Its flexibility allows for potential extensions in other parts of the garden, adapting to the client’s evolving needs.
