The urban proposal for Torrefarrera envisions the creation of a new central square as the town’s civic heart, designed to host both daily activities and large-scale community events. The project addresses the shortage of accessible public and green spaces within the urban core, proposing an open, barrier-free environment that connects the town’s key facilities through a pedestrian axis along Carrer Sant Sebastià, linked to the commercial axis of Carrer Mare de Déu de Montserrat.

The design is structured into three main zones: a large paved multifunctional space for events; a central green area with natural lawn and a circular stepped seating for smaller activities; and a southern compacted earth zone dedicated to children’s play and recreational-sport uses. Transitions between zones are seamless and permeable, blurring the boundaries between square, park, and streets, thus fostering flexible and simultaneous use.

The layout combines a rational, orderly pavement system—facilitating the organization of furniture and utilities with a more “organic” arrangement of vegetation and trees, which provide shade, character, and spatial variability. Architecture is kept to a minimum, with vegetation serving as the main structuring and climatic element. Circular geometries mark specific areas, adding identity without competing with the existing triangular urban fabric. Overall, the proposal seeks to create a living, participatory, and adaptable space that strengthens community identity while enhancing the town’s environmental quality.
